In 2021, long-running UK post-metal band Sons of Alpha Centauri teamed up with Far/onelinedrawing vocalist Jonah Matranga and Will Haven drummer Mitch Wheeler to release the new album Push, and now that same expanded lineup has announced a followup album, Pull. The album was recorded in Jonah and Mitch’s hometown of Sacramento with Deftones collaborators Lance Jackman and Joe Johnson, and it was engineered and mixed by Dan Lucas. It comes out on March 28 via Exile On Mainstream, and you can pre-order it here.
They recently released lead single/opening track “Ephemeral,” and we’re now premiering the title track. Like Push, these new songs find Sons of Alpha Centauri really leaning into the spacey, atmospheric post-hardcore that Far and Will Haven are best known for, and Jonah’s voice suits this kind of stuff with the same soaring sense of urgency that it did in the ’90s.
“When I heard ‘Pull’ for the first time, I instantly imagined myself flying along in some wild machine,” Jonah says. “The vocals arrived effortlessly. I think the song ended up being about momentum, autonomy, and creativity. Really getting free. All these ways of moving through our external and internal worlds. I hope you turn it way up while riding or driving really fast, or taking off in a plane, or maybe skydiving. Anything disorienting.”
Founding bassist Nick Hannon adds, “The pace of ‘Pull’ and the harmonies tied in with Jonah’s soaring vocals is when we knew we were taking it to the next level. This track embodies the natural evolution of the band away from Push and into the new world of Pull! Experience it!”
