Following the release of their new single “Perhaps” this summer, Guns N’ Roses have shared another new track, “The General.” They first played it live during their second night at Hollywood Bowl in November, and you can hear it below.
In a 2008 interview with Rolling Stone, former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach said that Axl Rose told him “The General,” which was written during the Chinese Democracy sessions, was the sequel to “Estranged” from 1991’s Use Your Illusion II, “that goes to the parable that Del James wrote of the trilogy” (James wrote the short story that inspired the “November Rain” video).
In an interview with Metal Edge the year earlier, Bach called “The General” “one of my favorite songs,” continuing, “it’s by far the heaviest metal tune I think I’ve ever heard Axl do, this slow, grinding riff with these high, piercing vocals, screaming vocals.”
