Escuela Grind have announced a new EP, DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL, due January 12 via MNRK Heavy, which is the latest installment in the band’s EP series that focuses on genres that influence this band, following 2020’s PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE and GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE. Recorded with Will Killingsworth and mixed by Kurt Ballou, this one (obviously) shows off the band’s death metal side, and it features a guest appearance from Barney Greenway of death / grind pioneers Napalm Death on the song “Meat Magnet.”
“Originally we were going to have three songs on this EP, but we wanted to create another track that had a huge buildup,” vocalist Katerina Economou says. “This eventually developed into this brutal song, “Ball and Chain”, that marks the point in our live shows where we have a wall of death every night. Lyrically, it references death metal tropes of murder and revenge, but with a decidedly feminine angle.”
“Ball and Chain” is the lead single, and it comes with a black-and-white music video filmed at a show in Mexico City (directed by Michael Jari Davidson) that gives you a very good taste of how killer this band’s live show is. Check it out below.
Escuela Grind have some shows supporting Napalm Death in Europe this week, and they also just announced a North American tour for 2024. That includes shows with Take Offense, Brat, Bonginator, Come Mierda, Slow Pulse, and Frog Mallet, varying by date.
Long Island gets a show on January 11 at Amityville Music Hall with Come Mierda and Slow Pulp, and Ridgewood, Queens get a stop on February 16 at TV Eye with Take Offense and Brat. Tickets will be on sale soon. All dates are listed below.
