The Dillinger Escape Plan are back for a select round of reunion shows with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis that has them celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 1999 debut album Calculating Infinity. Their first show back was Goldenvoice’s new Pomona festival No Values on Saturday (6/8), where they played material from that album, their 1997 self-titled debut EP, and 1998’s Under the Running Board EP, and they also had two surprises in store. They brought out former/original Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra for DK’s classic “California Über Alles,” and they also brought out guitarist Ben Weinman’s Suicidal Tendencies bandmate Mike Muir to cover Minor Threat‘s version of Wire‘s “12XU.” They referred to it as “a little Dillinger / Suicidal / Minor Threat shit,” and Mike seemingly gave a shoutout to Minor Threat bassist Brian Baker, who was at No Values with Bad Religion (who played directly after Suicidal on the Holt Ave Stage). Jello, who was officially on the No Values bill as a DJ, also surprised Agent Orange’s crowd by playing “Police Truck” with them.
DEP’s lineup for the reunion is rounded out by bassist Liam Wilson, guitarist James Love, and drummer Billy Rymer. No Values marked their first show since their 2017 farewell shows and first full show with Dimitri since 2001. Next up: they play NYC’s Brooklyn Paramount on June 21 with Car Bomb and Candy, June 22 with The Callous Daoboys and Deadguy, and June 23 with Deadguy, Candy, Car Bomb, and The Callous Daoboys. After that, they play Chicago’s Salt Shed on August 24 with The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die and No Men. Tickets here.
