LA punks Cunts (members of Qui, Retox, Dead Cross, and more) are gearing up to follow their 2019 self-titled debut LP with a new album in 2024, and they’re set to play their first live back on August 18 in Los Angeles. It marks a comeback for the band who were forced into hiatus due to the pandemic, as well as vocalist Matt Cronk’s car accident that left him unable to speak for months. Guitarist Michael Crain also recovered from cancer, released a solo EP, and put out a new Dead Cross album in that time. They’ve also revamped their lineup with two new members. Details on the album are TBA, but we’re now premiering their first new single, “Life’s Fortune.” Vocalist Matt Cronk says:
“Life’s Fortune” is about inequity. We have celebrity billionaires taking day trips to outer space while people down here on Earth can’t afford to go to the emergency room. Our new guitarist, Koko Arabian, got the new iPhone 14 ProMax. With features such as 4K video recording at 60 feet per second, TrueDepth 12Mega Pixel camera, and a splash resistant lens. We were inspired to see how professional-looking we could make a music video. That being said, we also wanted to do our part to ensure that Apple execs and their ilk can afford to catch the next leisure rocket to space or submersible to the bottom of the ocean. What’s more, our new bassist, Rico Adair, cuts such a striking figure we were anxious to share his majestic visage with the world. The shoot served as a wonderful team building exercise as we strengthened our new partnership.
The song is a heaping dose of abrasive, discordant post-hardcore and it makes for a genuinely intense comeback. It was produced by Crain and the video was directed by the band. Check it out below, and also watch a comeback announcement video that dteails Matt’s path to recovery.
