Kansas City mathcore vets Coalesce have been in the midst of playing very select reunion shows, and now vocalist Sean Ingram has launched a new project called Idle Heirs, with a full-length debut album set to arrive in 2025 via Relapse Records. It’s a collaboration with fellow Kansas City musician and producer Josh Barber, who’s worked with Norma Jean, The Casket Lottery, and more. Sean says:
We initially had no intention to share this record outside of our loved ones so there was absolutely no fear to go out on a limb (creatively) and just let it live wherever that went. In that way the record really wrote itself, and the bigger challenge was just getting out of the way and let it be what it wanted to be.
All they’ve released so far is a 17-second teaser video with new music, but even just that very brief clip is enough to get us excited. Check it out below.
Coalesce recently played NYC and Philly shows with Cave In (check out pics from NYC), and they just announced three Pacific Northwest shows with Great Falls and Museum of Light happening this January. Tickets are on sale now. Find the tour poster with all dates below.
In related news, Great Falls teamed up with Botch vocalist Dave Verellen to cover Rorschach’s “Mandible” for Hex Records’ 25th anniversary compilation, and you can check that out below. After all, they were a band credited with bringing more metallic, chaotic, and for lack of a better term ‘math-y’ elements to hardcore. Without Rorschach there would be no Deadguy, no Kiss It Goodbye, no Botch, no Great Falls, no Converge. They set a template.” To go full circle, probably safe to add no Coalesce either. “Mandible” was on Rorschach’s 1993 album Protestant, which you can read about in our list of 21 albums that defined ’90s New York post-hardcore.
