Gasket are a metallic hardcore band from Baltimore who formed in 2022, released a three-song demo that same year, and then put out their debut EP Dull The Needle this past fall via Blue Grape Music, the new label launched by former Roadrunner Records executives Dave Rath and Cees Wessels that’s also home to Code Orange, Gel, and Spiritual Cramp. Now they’re gearing up for a new EP, Babylon, due June 21 via Blue Grape, and we’re premiering its lead single “Syndicate.”
Picking up where Dull The Needle left off, “Syndicate” is a metallic hardcore song that feels more punk than metal, like Cursed or Converge, and Gasket do it really well. The song is “about an old friend you wish you‘d never met,” says vocalist Flynn Joseph Zimmer. “The embodiment of disappointment in realizing someone you loved and looked up to like a brother was not at all who you thought they were.” It comes with a video and you can check that out below.
About the EP overall, the band says, “This EP is the hardest we’ve ever worked on anything together. As simple as it may sound, it’s a culmination of all of our favorite bands. Lyrically, it’s a melting pot of experiences and feelings we’ve had for the past two years that we hope people can relate to. Babylon represents Gasket as a whole; it’s our escape from reality and we couldn’t be more grateful for it.”
