When Suede (aka The London Suede) go to make a new album, bassist Mat Osman says they write upwards of 50 songs and then whittle down from there. “Every single one of them has to add something new to what we’ve done, has to stand against what we’ve done.” He also says Suede doesn’t want to be like some other reunited contemporaries. “When we reformed, I’d seen a lot of reformed bands and it always disappointed me that that their records felt like an afterthought,” Osman told us. “It’s always really disappointing that those records feel like a like a T-shirt or a souvenir of the band and we just didn’t want to do that.”
Suede just release their excellent 10th album Antidepressants, which is their fifth since reforming in 2010.
