“This is the constant struggle in our life, is finding the balance between what is it we want to do? What is it we have to do? What is it we need to do?” It’s just three days after Soulwax released All Systems Are Lying, their first album in seven years, and Stephen and David Dewaele are a little jetlagged, having just got back from a whirlwind trip to the US to promote the album and bring Despacio, their bespoke portable club with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, to Miami’s III Points. They are now back at DEEWEE, their homebase in Gent, Belgium that includes their recording studio, their label offices and their massive record collection, which takes up an entire room and is where they are dialing in from.
In our wide-ranging conversation we talk All Systems Are Lying, why it took it took so long to make, and how it differs from their last two albums, Essential and From DEEWEE.
