Earlier this year, DJ Premier and Roc Marciano teamed up for the song “Armani Section” and said they had an entire collaborative project on the way, and now that project has been announced with a release date of just one week from today (August 8). It’s called The Coldest Profession and it has eight songs, including “Armani Section” and the just-released second single “Prayer Hands.”
Of the new song, DJ Premier says, “Roc always makes sure to never go in the direction of the expected types. He brags, without bragging. He shows off, without showing off. If that does not make sense, then you’re not what we want in our league of pure style. That’s the definition of ‘Prayer Hands.’ Explanations are not needed.”
DJ Premier and Roc Marciano first teamed up for the 2018 PRhyme (DJ Premier & Royce da 5’9″) song “Respect My Gun”, but this new project is their first 50/50 collab and it should come as no surprise that they make a perfect pair. DJ Premier helped invent ’90s boom bap, and Roc Marciano is one of the genre’s best and most important torch-carriers of the past 15 years. “Armani Section” was a great introduction to this collab, and “Prayer Hands” is yet another instantly great one.
