Remember when Kanye West said his new album The Life of Pablo would never be for sale and the only place you could stream it would be Tidal, and then neither of those things turned out to be the case at all? Did that make you mad? Well, it made Justin Baker-Rhett mad and he’s now sued both the rapper and the streaming service claiming they duped fans into signing up for the exclusive place to listen to the album. From Billboard:
“We fully support the right of artists to express themselves freely and creatively, however creative freedom is not a license to mislead the public,” Baker-Rhett’s attorney Jay Edelson wrote in a statement. “We believe that we will be able to prove to a jury that Mr. West and Tidal tricked millions of people into subscribing to their services and that they will ultimately be held accountable for what they did.”
The lawsuit alleges that The Life of Pablo “exclusive” gave Tidal an additional 2 million subscribers.
Drake and Apple Music better watch out!
