Eminem was the subject of criticism for part of his set at Bonnaroo on Saturday after attendees described hearing a gunshot sound effect during “Kill You.” In social media posts, some described ducking, screaming, or leaving the set early after what they described as an inappropriate and disturbing effect, while others pointed out that Eminem has used the same effect at previous shows, including other festivals this year, without backlash. As People reports, a spokesperson for Eminem has responded to the criticism:
Contrary to inaccurate reports, Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show. The effect used by Eminem in his set at Bonnaroo was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom. He has used this effect — as have hundreds other artists — in his live show for over 10 years, including previous US festival dates in 2018 without complaint.
