Buckshot, Pharoahe Monch, KRS-One & more celebrated 30 years of Duck D

Lincoln Center‘s free or choose-what-you-pay series Summer for the City is underway now, and one of the highlights happened on Saturday with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Duck Down Music at Damrosch Park. The holiday weekend didn’t dampen turnout, and the line to get in stretched around Amsterdam Ave when things kicked off at 7:30pm. Mr. Walt of Da Beatminerz and Funk Flex started off the night with DJ sets, and Xavier “X” Jernigan, the voice of Spotify’s AI DJ, who curated the evening, gave an introduction between them.

Torae spoke ahead of a performance from The Whiskey Boyz and DJ Evil Dee. They were followed by Duck Down co-founder Buckshot, who was joined by Boot Camp Clik and O.G.C. Bernadette Price, who was married to the late Sean Price, filled in for Sean in Boot Camp Click, and she introduced she and Sean’s daughter, Shaun, before leaving the stage.

Pharoahe Monch (who did “Simon Says”), Masta Ace (who joined Buckshot on “Crooklyn”), M.O.P. (“How About Some Hardcore?” and “Ante Up”), and KRS-One (“South Bronx,” “Step into a World,” a freestyle over music played by The Whiskey Boyz, and “The Bridge Is Over”) also made appearances, and the final performance of the night was Boot Camp Clik members performing Black Moon’s “I Got Cha Opin” and “Who Got da Props.”
