Happy Halloween! 6 New Spooky Songs Out Now

BOO! It’s Halloween and a few artists have chosen to celebrate with spooky new songs. Here are six released this week which could fit right into your Halloween playlist, including songs by Florence + the Machine, Anna von Hausswolff, Trouble Andrew, Ashes and Diamonds (ex Bauhaus), and more.

Haunt your speakers below…

Florence + the Machine – “Witch Dance”

It’s probably not a coincidence that Florence Welch’s new album titled Everybody Scream came out on Halloween, and the album-opening title track is not the only track on the album that’s well-suited for spooky season. She’s got one called “Witch Dance,” and it’s got fueled by some haunting, witchy musical vibes that live up to the title. It also comes with a pretty Halloweeny lyric video.

Anna von Hausswolff – “The Iconoclast”

Anna von Hausswolff’s new album Iconoclasts is basically a goth rock opera and the whole thing is perfect for Halloween. I probably could’ve picked any song for this list but let’s go with the 11-minute “The Iconoclast.” It’s a mini epic of its own; a cinematic, multi-part suite with more than enough creepy vibes to get you in the Halloween spirit. Anna’s operatic voice alone will give you chills.

Trouble Andrew – “Thanks for Trying”

Musician, snowboarder and artist Trouble Andrew is back with this new ripper than dips a toe into goth territory, with a very moody bassline and the straddles the line between punk and synthpop. The video on his Instagram takes the song further into Halloween territory.

Lankum – “Ghost Town” (The Specials cover)

Irish band Lankum’s eight-minute cover of The Specials’ classic “Ghost Town” manages to honor and possibly out-creep the original, do new and cool things with the song, and retain Lankum’s signature droney, electronic-tinged celtic folk sound. Likewise for the video, directed by Leonn Ward and conceptualized by Oona Doherty, which is an homage to the creepy Specials’ video.

Ashes and Diamonds – “Alien Love”

Former Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Love and Rockets guitarist Daniel Ash leads the trio Ashes and Diamonds that also includes PiL/The Pop Group drummer Bruce Smith and Sade bassist Paul Denman. There are definite Bauhaus vibes — and lots of Ash’s signature guitar squall — on “Alien Love,” which is from the group’s debut album that is out today.

Aime Simone – “WEREWOLF” feat. Peter Doherty

Paris-born artist and producer Aime Simone released this collaboration with Libertines frontman Peter Doherty on Halloween today. “Now I’m a werewolf, don’t tell nobody / Am I a curse or someone you want to know,” Aime sings after Pete’s eerie spoken word intro.
