Brooklyn’s Operator Music Band are back with a new EP, Four Singles, which will be out March 22 via Deep Break Records. As the title implies, the record compiles four recent songs from the group, and is their first output in a couple years, as the band took a break when Jared Hiller suffered a life-threatening accident, falling nearly 30 feet from a warehouse skylight.
Jared is now mostly healed and the band are back in action, and these releases mark a clubbier direction for the group, who previously were closer to Broadcast or Stereolab. “For me, this collection of songs is about discovering music as play,” says the band’s Dara Hirsch. “There was a very long time in this band where so much of what we were doing felt like work. Satisfying and worthwhile, but ultimately work. Now, we feel like we have so much more room – feeling free to create and play without a specific goal. We can do things on our own terms.”
New single “As it Goes” has a distinct acid house feel with those squelchy 303s gurgling throughout. We’ve got the premiere of the video, which was shot and edited by Hiller, who included some of his recovery alongside footage of the band in the studio and moments of goofing off. Watch that below.
