Kiasmos, the duo of Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen, have announced their second album, which is their first in a decade. It’s titled II and will be out July 5 via Erased Tapes. “II is livelier,” says Janus, “but it still retains the signature Kiasmos style of transitioning from a whisper-quiet ambience to an explosive dance beat that can blow your socks off.” Ólafur adds, “The record sounds fuller. The sound design gives you a sense of place and space.”
Like on their first album, Kiasmos take techno and give it orchestral sweep. “It’s emotional rave!” jokes Ólafur. “We often talk about the idea of crying on the dance floor, That’s become our unofficial slogan.” You can listen to “Burst” and “Flown” from the album now.
Kiasmos will tour for the album, including US and Mexico shows this fall. Those include Brooklyn’s Elsewhere on November 12. Tickets for all North American dates go on sale Friday, April 26 at 10 AM local time. Check out their tour dates below.
