Producer and PC Music cofounder Danny L Harle has announced a new album, Cerulean, due out on February 13 via XL. He’s calling it his “debut album,” though it follows 2021’s Harlecore and a few EPs, and it features his frequent collaborator Caroline Polachek, artists like PinkPantheress, Oklou, Clairo, and Julia Michaels that he’s worked with before, and more. He said he was looking for “the best melodies sung by the best voices,” and his influences included Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1979 film Stalker, Philip Glass’ opera Einstein on the Beach, the Dark Souls video game series, and more. See the cover art and tracklist below.
Cerulean includes Harle’s recent singles “Azimuth” and “Starlight,” and he’s shared a third single, “Crystallise My Tears,” featuring Oklou and MNEK. “I already knew Oklou from our frequent collaboration,” Harle says. “I simply sent the song over to her; she nailed the vocal and sent it back. We didn’t have to share many words as we love very similar things about music. She has a particular ability to convey emotion through tone, and I really feel it in this one, there is a surreal alien beauty to her delivery. I knew Uzo (MNEK) as well; I am honoured to have the king of UK house grace the most house-adjacent track on my album with such a soaring and emotional vocal.” Hear it below.
