Dave Chappelle turned 50 on Thursday (8/24), and his birthday fell right in the middle of a four-show NYC run at Madison Square Garden, where he had a bunch of guests on hand to help him celebrate. Hollywood Reporter points out that Pete Davidson (doing his first set after being in rehab), Michael Che, Ronnie Chung, Michelle Wolf, and Jeff Tyson all did surprise opening sets for Chappelle, and during his sets he brought out Travis Scott (watch him sing Happy Birthday to Chappelle), Burna Boy, Common, Busta Rhymes, The Roots, Nas, De La Soul, Ludacris, John Mayer, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Aziz Ansari, Donnell Rawlings, Mike Tyson, Luenell, and Earthquake.
People were required to lock their cell phones and cameras in Yondr pouches during the shows, but some photo and video footage has surfaced, and you can see that below.
Page Six reports that Chappelle also had a party / private show at Comedy Cellar for his birthday on Thursday night, with guests including Angel Bassett, Jon Hamm, Anna Osceola, Chance the Rapper (who was in town for his Acid Rap show at Barclays Center on Saturday), Tasha Smith, Jaleel White, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Vanessa Ferlito, Andrew Schultz, Michelle Wolf, Aziz Ansari, Donnell Rawlings, and more. A source told Page Six, “It’s rare that the Cellar would ever do a private party like this, but for Chappelle, he is considered family.”
