Legendary punk photographer Glen E. Friedman is following last year’s Black Flag photobook with a photobook for the band he may be most famous for shooting, Minor Threat. (Friedman took the iconic Dischord House front porch photo that appears on the cover of the Salad Days EP.) Titled Just a Minor Threat: The Minor Threat Photographs of Glen E. Friedman, the book comes out October 3 via Akashic and features some of Friedman’s most well-known photos of the band, but most of the pictures in this book are previously unseen. Some of these photos are from that same shoot as the Salad Days pic, others are from an “explosive and uncontrollable” CBGB show, and there are several other “very rare candid and posed” photos of the band. It also features essays by Jello Biafra, Alec MacKaye, Guy Picciotto, Zack de la Rocha, Jamie Shanahan, and Ian F. Svenonius.

Friedman is also known for shooting the photos on the album covers for Beastie Boys’ Check Your Head and Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, as well as photographing Fugazi, Bad Brains, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, and many others. He self-published the photozine My Rules in 1982, and he also has released photography books for Fugazi, Run-DMC/Beastie Boys, the Z-Boys skateboarding team (and later contributed to the Dogtown and Z-Boys documentary), and more.
