The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has long outgrown the park’s actual dog run and has been on the move since, spending a few years at East River Park before the park began undergoing construction for costal resiliency. Since 2023 it’s been moved to the streets of the East Village for a literal parade of pooches, although frequently under threat of cancellation. This year it took over Avenue B, beginning at 13th Street at 1 PM on Sunday (10/19). Hundreds of costumed canines packed the street as thousands of people looked on, and I spotted a bunch of doggie Labubus, an Oasis-inspired costume, a dog dressed as a free MTA bus via Zohran Mamdani and an NYC subway dog carried by a pair of owners in rat masks, as well as an assortment of hot dogs, the eyeball monster sheep from Alien: Earth, tacos, postal workers, angels, kings, ballerinas, lions, superheroes, pumpkins, and more (including at least one cat!).
