Their initial demo tapes got to the attention of Todd Rundgren who was making\u003cbr\u003erecords for Bearsville Records and he was so intrigued with the band, as their sound was like nothing being offered then or even now. “It wasn’t the very first band I discovered, but it was the most unusual thing I ever discovered.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInitially released in 1971 as their self-titled debut “Halfnelson”, the Lp was one of the more alternative offerings that year by any standard, and it received some underground radio and college radio support, as tunes like “Roger” and “Wonder Girl” would become early favorites for their growing fan base.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA year later, the L.A. based quintet changed their name to Sparks, and the iconic “Halfnelson” Lp artwork would also be changed to reflect their new name.
