Since the mid-1970s, Beckman has chronicled the punk rock scenes of London, New York and Los Angeles, the explosive rise of New York City hip-hop, iconic fashion brands such as Levi’s and Dr. Martens, and some of the most significant political activism since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, including Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street and No Kings.

This May, the Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) in Seattle opened the exhibit Rebels + Icons: The Photography of Janette Beckman, a major solo retrospective celebrating more than four decades of her groundbreaking work.
